Sweet and Sour Pork Meatballs
My family and I spend of Sunday lunches at my mom’s house to pay a visit, spend great time talking about whatever thing and an opportunity to boast a new or improved dish. Though painful for me as a food blogger, I should and must admit that my mom is a great cook, far way better than I cook. I guess that is also one reason why we always want to stay at my mom’s house. She makes sure all ingredients are in the dish, perfectly cooked and exact combination of flavor and spices. But everytime I ask her what she put in the dish, she would always say, “Secret”. Argh.
Since, I already perfected my Pork Meatballs recipe, I cooked them again and made a sweet and sour sauce for a SWEET AND SOUR PORK MEATBALLS dish and brought it at my mom’s house a while ago. My mom is a strict food critic but good thing she loved it. When she asked me what was the ingredient, it was a perfect moment to teasingly tell her, ” Secret.” The Sweet and Sour Sauce I made is more of a Pinoy blend of calamansi juice and tomato sauce. I gave the recipe, of course. Hehe.
SWEET AND SOUR PORK MEATBALLS
for the sweet and sour sauce:
2 tbsp. calamansi juice
1 tbsp. cornstarch dissolved in 1 cup water
1/4 cup tomato sauce
2 tbsp. banana catsup
1 tsp. salt
2 tbsp. brown sugar
1 medium carrot, peeled and sliced
1 medium red/green bell pepper, seeded and sliced
1 medium onion, peeled and quartered
In a small skillet, combine all ingredients except carrots, bell peppers and onion. You may adjust the taste by adding some of the ingredients. Bring to slow boil. If desired consistency is reached, add the vegetables. Simmer for another few minutes then pour over Pork Meatballs.
