Sinigang na Baboy (Pork in Tamarind Soup)

Even if it’s cloudy outside, summer is still here which makes the weather hot! It is sometimes unpleasant to cook in this very warm temperature. And even a good hot meal or soup in this terrible hot day makes them unpopular. But no Filipino can resist a rich, thick and intense SINIGANG NA BABOY (Pork in Tamarind Soup) despite of the weather condition. Sinigang na Baboy is one of the most wanted Pinoy dish for...

Sopas (Creamy Chicken Macaroni Soup)

It rained for the past 2 nights and I am thankful the rain somehow helped lessen the warm temperature which was 38 degress Celcius yesterday, the hottest day of the year. Some provinces here in the Philippines like Isabela already reached 40 degrees, whew, that is hot hot hot. I do not know if I am to be happy the summer is about to end because I really do not like rain. I had terribly stressed with the rain last...

Breaded Pork Chops

I got inspired by Tokyo Tokyo’s advertisement, Pork Tonkatsu, which seemingly mouthwatering and satisfying deep-fried pork fillet seasoned with Japanese flavorings. But instead of trying to do a Japanese style Tonkatsu, I cooked the all-time favorite BREADED PORK CHOPS. I love the crispiness of the bread crumbs coating the pork chops with the lemon, salt and pepper seasoning. Nobody will ever go wrong with...

Pork Asado

Everybody loves a good cooked meat – roasted, simmered, baked, fried, you name it and everybody enjoys it, provided that herbs and flavor are infused into the strands of meat. One of best way of infusing the flavor into meat yet retaining the tenderness and moisture is to braise the meat. Braising is slowly cooking a slab of pork, cooled, sliced and served with its thickened braising sauce. PORK ASADO is a...

Pansit or Pancit Bihon Guisado (Rice Sticks Noodles with Vegetables)

Our son, Zachary Caleb, turns one month today! I know that to some it is not considered a major highlight, but for me, being his mother, today is a cherished and thanksgiving day. I am grateful for the happiness and joy he is giving to me each day despite of the sleepless nights and scaring me of his fragility. I know it will be a wonderful countdown to his 1st birthday as we will watch him grow and learn things...

Ginataang Laing (Taro Leaves)

My sister’s friend who is from Bicol taught me the original Bicolano way of cooking GINATAANG LAING. Ginataang Laing is a classic dish of Bicolanos – taro or gabi leaves simmered in coconut milk (gata). Of course nobody can call it a Bicolano dish without the kick of red chili peppers. There are many versions of Ginataang Laing. I used to cook them with shrimp paste or alamang, some cook them with...

Meaty Spaghetti

I cooked MEATY SPAGHETTI this day to break the usual biscuit and cookies we eat for meriendas. Colby has a small complain though with the spaghetti for I forgot to buy cheese to top with it. But he loved it anyway. I prefer spaghetti sauce to have more beef than having the meat just floating on a pool of tomato sauce and I seasoned the sauce a bit sweet to make it friendlier for Colby. MEATY SPAGHETTI Spaghetti...

Jam Sweet Jam’s Crema de Fruta

After attending church, we went to my mom’s house to celebrate Mother’s Day with a simple lunch with a nice and colorful Crema de Fruta which I bought at Jam Sweet Jam, a local bakeshop in our city. Crema de Fruta is a chilled yellow cake, layered with creamy custard filling and topped with fruits in gelatin glaze. I favor Jam Sweet Jam’s Crema de Fruta than Goldilocks. Jam Sweet Jam is mildly sweetened, has...

Halabos na Hipon

I have been running gaga all around the house – nursing Caleb, taking care of Colby, doing the laundry, making sure the house is neatly cleaned as friends do visit and check the baby,  planning and cooking meals, buying all needful things, and many more. It is not easy spending all day being at home which I believe is the hardest job a woman would ever have. Despite of the sleepless nights putting Caleb to...
